Been a long time brother. Thank you for putting this lyrical wise reflection into the world. I read your words through the prism of Buddhism, which identifies attachment as the source of suffering, in you, me, America, the world. The healing/ enlightenment process (I guess!) is about loving detachment. So the problem can also be thought of as: How to love the nation without attachment? The process you describe of fracturing attachment can be seen as a positive one, painful, full of suffering as it is, of creating the opportunity for a detached patriotism (love of country). Dunno if that's possible but worth trying? Anyway, thanks for your enlightenment, profound.
